New Year with a New Website and a New Painting Seashells    It's exciting to start a new year with hope and opportunity for more painting! I just finished a 8" x 10" study for a larger painting I am planning which will be 16" x 20". I love the impressionistic influence on this one and I really enjoy painting children on the beach. I was inspired by the holidays to combine a Red and Green Holiday colored theme with a red-striped martini glass, red and green olives, and a red ornament. I love the design of this painting with the center of interest being a COLD (shaken until you can skate on it) martini with supporting players looking in towards it. I had to pull out my favorite new Trekell brushes with fine points to get all the various shapes and angles just how I wanted them. I also strived to get the lusciousness and the color of the olives and the feeling of an "iced" martini shaker -- which I think both were a success. [...]

“TEARS FOR A NATION” is a symbolic tribute for Ukraine showing the fragile part of life which includes armor and resistance (in vase) with the beauty of hope in the “Forget-Me-Not” flowers which are fully open and yearning for light. Forget-Me-Nots symbolize remembrance. [...]

We've been talking about the idea of “Concepts” in painting in a Still Life Oil Group I host. Concepts are the idea behind a painting and that idea is very personal. It might be beauty or it might be dark, but it's painted using the Language of Art, something that is conveyed using shadow and light. [...]
